I have a friend from Michigan that I talk to from time to time. In our talks, I asked “what’s one of your greatest memories?” She answered “Winning a spelling bee!” I asked her how she won, she said she was the district champion, but was disqualified by points.
This was the first time I ever heard of “points” in a Spelling Bee. Everyone knows what a Spelling Bee is; you spell a word correctly, you stay on until you misspell a word. The last person standing and spells the last word correctly wins. No points. But it seems that wasn’t the case.
She explained that even thought she won in the district, she didn’t went on to the national finals because there’s a “point system” per district. How this works is that they decide who’s better fit to represent by giving districts grades based on the quality of the education there. Her district ranked lower, so even thought she was flawless in performance, she was only considered a “stand-by” position, which basically means she was thrown “easier words” than a person in another district, hence why she can’t go on to the national finals… unless the person got sick or was unable to attend.
Now, maybe the rules/qualifications changed, since this is the 80s we’re talking about, but it goes to show you: there is a such thing as “lower quality of education” in inner cities. Being disqualified from going on simply because you been pitched easy pitches while they purposely trained others to become full fledged players is actually a thing.
To all the people defending the actions of people saying comical/satire/questionable things about Quvenzhané Wallis’ name and/or personality.
I hate you more than I hate the people who put their foot in their mouths.
Why? Because you don’t view Quvenzhané Wallis as a young child, but as a Black object.
Do not tell me she’s in the “big leagues” and must take criticism because you’re not even criticizing her acting skills. You are criticizing her name, her personality all because she’s the wrong hue.
What you are doing is what I like to call micro-aggressive acts of racism.
You are not looking at her as a child, you are looking at her as a threat to your establishment and your comfort zone.
You’re hurting not only this child, but any Black child that looks up to this young lady with your stupidity.
I wish you’ll look at this young woman the same way you looked at other young women her age.
STOP DEFENDING MICRO-AGGRESSIVE ACTS OF RACISM. STOP SAYING IT’S ONLY CRITICISM. STOP SAYING IT’S SATIRE.
Lastly, I want to say something about names…
The most beautiful sound to a person is their own name. If you say a name correctly, it means “This person deserves a little bit of my respect.”
Learn something from that statement I just said. I hate to spell things out for you every single time.
I honestly believe that racism would quickly disappear completely if people would stop calling eachother racists, and using race as a cop-out to avoid the consequences of their own actions. “Its cause im black aint it?!” “Its just cause he racist” “hate me cause im black” “im PROUD to be black” I hear this shit all the time. If skin color doesnt matter, it’s nothing to be proud of! This is totally retarded. And just because youre black and a white person doesnt like you doesnt mean he’s racist, could just mean you’re an asshole.
And i hear black people say “nigga” about.. 102345346234 times more than i hear white people say it. I bet if they stopped using that word, people would forget about it completely. And if a little white kid get jumped at school for calling someone a nigger cause he heard it on the radio, it’s basically socially acceptable, like he deserved it. cause everyone is so fucking terrified of being accused of being racist..
WHO FUCKING CARES, i bet like 1 in 200 people are actually racist, and thats just because they’ve been raised in a culture where black people segregate THEMSELVES.

… for sticking your unwanted opinions in a post.
You’re an asshole with an opinion that seems racist.
There’s a difference between adding your opinion where you don’t really add any value to the conversation and being oppressive.
Learn the difference before thinking “Hey, I MUST be a racist for having an opinion”…
No, you’re just being a dick. Stop it.

This is 2012. So, when we say “this happens to our grandparents,” it’s meant to say “yeah, it’s not gonna go away any time soon.”
Oh yea…have y’all seen this?
Two things…
1) Racism = keeping a set of people down. White oppresses Blacks. Black cannot oppress white.
2) Second… y’all know Jamie Foxx is a comedian, right?
Telling you… White people will get jumpy at anything.
You know how many White people say they love “American History X”? Do you know the scene that made me stop watching the movie? Black man getting his head stomped in by a White dude… with his teeth biting the curve.
I exited a client’s house and started walking home. A White UPS man, who sees me often, asked me “where you’re going?” I told him I’m going down the hill to go home. He then told me that there are cops down there looking for someone and wanted to give me a “heads up” for that.
This immediately came to my mind:
Should I be offended, or should I be thankful that he advised me?
When people who don’t know you like that is looking out for your well being, it makes you wonder about the state of society’s mind. It’s amazing that when something as simple as walking home could be a life-changing event for a colored person.
P.S. - I wasn’t stop and frisk like I usually would be because no one noticed me when I walked past the cops, bright lights and all.
I hate reading “oh well, Black people in Africa once enslaved White people” as an excuse for slavery. Like it’s suppose to trump American slavery arguments. Like it’s suppose to excuse White Privilege Immunity.
Instead, it make them sound like they are saying “well, Blacks enslaved Whites in Africa. Where’s your outrage about that?” Yeah… like I don’t think that enslavement of humans in general is bad. They hit at me so hard, like I should feel sorry for them.
And then, they want to top it off with “you should just get over it. Slavery benefits everyone!”
What would I say to them? Simply:
“You and I were born into a time that we never have to face such human injustices as slavery. However, I highly doubt you fear for your life when you hear sirens.”
Alright, here’s something funny.
I decided to do research on “American Exceptionalism” to see if it was an actual culture. (Yes, it is, but I wanted to write an essay and be more formal about it)
My first self-thesis was “Why does the calendar here has Sundays to start the week, while other calenders have Monday to start the week?” I would then type into google this question.

Then I thought “Let me look deeper into this mess”
Turns out there’s a whole list of racial slurs that I didn’t know about. Which includes (but not limited to)…
And these are just SOME… for a complete list, check here.
Most of these words are targeted at Black people. The majority of this list, even thought not complete, is mostly aimed at Black people all over the world.
So, after looking into it, turns out “Monday” is a racial slur, according to this guy.
I didn’t even mean to learn all this! But it seems that banning the N-word would be kinda ridiculous because there’s a bunch of other words to replace it.
Google can teach you anything… wither you like it or not.

The one of many lies have finally caught up with this guy.
toying around with the idea of blocking anyone who bashes April in her tag, this is getting so annoying. I don’t go into her fucking tag to see your bullshit post about how you wish she died instead of Lexie or about how you don’t like her. Your post is irrelevant to the tag.
and 90% of the April hate posts are just the same one or two sentences about how you think she’s annoying or Lexie was better or something. Over and over again. ugh
If you really feel the need to post your negative feelings about a character in their tag, at least post it under the cut and put a warning like ‘not april friendly’ or something, so people who actually like her character can avoid it.
“My character is getting bashed”
“It’s so irrelevant to the tag”
You know how many times I go into black tags and see racist comments on there? You don’t see me writing posts about it.
Welcome to the Internet. Welcome to America, where you don’t get what you want. You know what? Let people tag Scandal and talk ish about it. Let people tag “black pride” and show us eating chicken and watermelon. You know what? I don’t give a damn. Because it’s America. It’s the Internet.
And I STILL don’t know who this April Kepner is, but now, I wish she was written off whatever show she’s on.
…Wow. Go sit down somewhere.Answer this question:
What does it mean to you to be white?
Answer honestly.
If your answer was “nothing,” then you have A LOT of reflection, critical thinking, and research to do before you ever even TRY to relate and talk to PoC.
It means my skin can burn in the sun easier, and that my skin color genes are recessive, so that with enough interracial breeding, no one will burn in the sun as easily, and btw if racism towards non-whites still exists, when our skin color disappears , then I call bullshit.
(btw the only reason whites even exist is because having black skin color was naturally disadvantageous in northern climates, due to Melanin which blocks UV light better, but with the angle of the sun making the rays not hit the earth as hard as in the south it essentially was: increased angle of the sun + black skin color = less vitamin D because they absorbed nutrients like vitamin D less than those with white skin, due to the Melanin blocking the UV rays more, which have vitamin D.
Theory: you can call all this bullshit
Or it might have to do with breeding with Neanderthals that existed in Europe, because come on they were hairy, and lighter skinned and what race besides white has that much hair on their body? (and you don’t see any other continent such as the americas and asia with people in the colder environments turning white) seriously tell me, learning about things like this is fun, and it modifies my theories. )
P.S. if this is a true theory, then technically non-whites are MORE human than whites
*ahem* I’m looking at you white supremacists I used SCIENCE to prove you wrong and even reverse your theory to make it towards you,
wait that means I’M less human welp IDGAF*standing by and half expecting hate*

So, you went the science route? REALLY? I can go the science route too…
When I’m born I’m black,
when I grow up I’m black,
when I’m in the sun I’m black,
when I get angry, I’m black,
when I’m sick I’m black,
when I die I’m black,
and you…
when you’re born you’re pink,
when you grow up you’re white,
when you’re in the the sun, you’re brown
when you get angry, you’re red
when you’re cold you’re gray,
when you’re sick you’re blue,
when you die you’re green and you dare call me colored!
The NY Post’s Phil Mushnick. Yes, this guy pretty much said these things. Yes, this quote was printed as is.
How is it that a man, who clearly go against law enforcer’s requests, and killed a young boy who was only armed with candy and ice tea, has raised more money with a website and less social media presence than the victim?
My heart goes out to her…we have actually had the opposite problem many times, where even after repeatedly asking an artist to draw an African American woman (or an African woman, such as Vixen), with more classically African features, we would routinely get back drawings that looked like blonde Barbie with dark, non-African hair. Even after including multiple photo references, even then we would get back women who looked identical to the white females. Even with POC artists, in many cases. Why is something so simple so hard?A Q&A with Comics Artist Jennifer Cruté, author of The Life of a SubUrban Girl
You have to put a jester hat on any oppressor—be that oppressor a person, a group or your own mind. I feel that the skill of dark humor is something that is innate in most cartoonists/artists that had to or have to deal with the oppression of racism, prejudice, sexism, homophobia, etc. etc. This skill helps me to draw a funny image with a message that may disturb, but will most certainly inform and hopefully educate.
