I dreamt a weird dream last night. And I remembered most of the details of thisaone…
It started out on St. Thomas, Virgin Islands. But this seems to be an alternative reality because I was in Charlotte Amalie, yet my old high school was there. (My high school is located by Red Hook) I was slightly younger (aka a couple of pounds lighter) and for some unknown reason, wearing my old school uniform. Also, even thought I was younger, our current advances in technology was also in place. Lastly, when it comes to my school, there were no white staff members, saved for a few teachers (like 2%). These details are important to know so the story will make sense.
Anyway, I happily came across a few coins on a busy roadside. I decided to pick them up when I discovered more coins. The coins were silver dollars, buffalo nickles, and some foreign coins. I thought how lucky I am.
Then, a white American woman nearly knocked me down with her car. She screamed at me “watch where you’re going, young man!” I looked up and was like “I’m sorry, I was just picking up stuff” and put the coins in my backpack. Then, she said, “wow, you’re dirty, you must be uneducated.”
This came across as weird. I tried explaining to her that I was picking up coins on the street, I guess I could be dirty. But I also noticed that she wasn’t paying attention to the road, hence why she almost hit me. But I decided to let it slide. Then she insisted on taking me some place to get cleaned up. I told her, “I’m fine, my home to just down the road” but she still insisted.
Because she was holding up traffic and she clearly wasn’t paying attention, I decided to get into the car, where she had two smart ass kids in the back.
While we drove, she looked at my clothes and asked me “do you go to school?” I told her, “No, I graduated from my school.” She then said, “are you lying to me, boy?” And I said, “no, ma’am, I finished school.” And then she said, “you poor thing. You need to be better educated, or else you won’t nearly be hit by a random car.” Before I try talking sense into her, she asked, “where is your school?” And I said, “over here” and I insisted on her to stop the car so I can get out. But she ignored me and parked right outside the school entrance. She then told me to “come along” while avoiding her kids in the back.
Now, the school campus was also an alternative reality type for one of the office buildings was really a three storey office (in reality, the school’s office is in a one story building. One section of the school is in a two story building). The principal’s office was on the top floor. Usually, you’ll have to go to the front desk to speak to the principal, but somehow, she knew where the principal’s office was and decided to go straight there, telling me that she’s here to “save you from yourself.” I wanted to get away from this woman, but I thought “well, it’s a dream, there’s a point to this, right?” And then I thought “wait… how I know I’m dreaming? Oh yeah… that’s right.” And was thinking how delightful for me to know it was a lucid dream. I figured some fun have to come out of this…
… so, anywayz…
We got to the principal’s office… and he’s in the middle of an emergency meeting. (One weird thing about the principal was that he’s actually my Junior High School one) The white woman slammed her fist on the desk to get everyone’s attention. “This boy almost got knocked down by my car because you haven’t educate him enough!” She insisted that I was a dropout because people of my own kind are savages. The Principal looked at this woman a bit confused and dismissed her claims. He went back to the staff and told them that the intercoms can’t be down right now and they are having an meeting to discuss the possibility of alternative methods of getting the word out, mostly via group text messages. The white woman wants to at least re-enrolled me in school, so the Principal decided to give her papers. She then starts to fill them out, without asking me about me.
I looked at the Principal and he then realized something. He came to me and pull me aside. He asked me “are you the student who she’s talking about?” I nodded. He said, “we both know you finished school.” And I nodded again. He asked me if she’s related to me. I said “I don’t know who she is. She kept insisting on saving me. Maybe you can help me out?” He said, “let’s see how this plays out. Clearly she’s confused and if anything, this would make a good story later on.” I figured, “sure why not?”
Now, we got back inside and suddenly looks like she had a moment of clarity. She stand up and said, “how come all of you are black?” Nobody knew what to say to her… except me. I said, “well, we’re all on an island… you know, full of black people?” Then she said, “I must save you all from yourself!” And then pulling out her cell phone, she immediately darted out of the office, calling “Washington, DC”. After about 20 minutes on the phone, she declared herself Principal of the school. She said, “I will relocate down here and will run this school the way it should be run!”
I thought this game must come to an end. So, I told her, “there’s nothing wrong with the school system here! I am educated! I finished school years ago! You were not paying attention to where you were driving and nearly knocked me down!”
And then she said, “boy, you are lost. But I will re-enrolled you and I will make sure that no one ever knocks you down again!”
And then I asked her, “but what about your kids?” And she said, “what kids?” I told her “what about your kids… the ones you left in the car with the windows up?” And she said, “if they die, that’s fine. I can always make new ones.”
Before anyone became shocked, I woke up. I wasn’t sure what to think of anything… except… huh?
