Project: Black RPG #2

The #90dayself idea basically go like this…

I’m reviewing game engines and all possible things I can do with it as well as story depth and see if I can spend 2-3 years (in my spare time) developing this game.

There’s a notebook in my Evernote account that has notes about the Project Black RPG, which includes:

  • characters
  • storylines
  • possible names of places
  • Races (Humans, metahumans, “the third race”, spirits and… furries)
  • a backstory of the game - The game will take place 2 years after an Extinction Level Event called (for now) “Earth Change”. The backstory will give me an excuse for doing what I’m about to do to the world.

I will only type hints about the game itself. If after 90 days, I still want to tackle the game, I’ll make my intentions known and will take the next step. Then I will put up a roadmap.

As of now, the game will feature an “urban” (I really hate that word)/island sound track, as well as PoC characters in a fantasy world. There will also be other types of characters, but I will not give away that idea at this point.

(If you have to ask what “the third race” is, google it. It’s a Gargoyle Reference.)

Villains…

blessedbrilliant replied to your post: Project: Black RPG #1

Please, make the villains strong enough with a level of depth that warrants beating them on physical and mental levels. Thanks

I’ve played a lot of Final Fantasy RPGs, so I am programming the villains to be defeated not only by strength and powerful spells, but also on how the spells works. You know… actual weaknesses that needs to be discovered and exploited.

The Game engine I considered using seems to have a lot of potential. It’s making it a Mac App that will be hard. I’ll have to wait and see.

I’m taking everything you know about a Square Enix type RPG, put it on a table… and then FLIP the table, mash it up and put my own pieces of the puzzle to it.

It will be a beautiful chaos… emerald! :)

Project: Black RPG #1

So, after a few hours deciding how to go about creating the world this RPG will take place in, I disclosed my idea to the first person and possible artist.

I told him about one of the character designs, someone that seems similar to the Joker, but with mythical powers. He likes it.

And then I told him how the world exist after an Extinction Level Event.

He balked at the idea.

Yeah, this might turn some stomachs…

Day 2 of the #90DaysShelf

The Problem with Fantasy RPGs

I like playing the Square Enix type RPGs.

However, it seems that when it comes to characters of… a slightly dark variety… they seem so stereotypical.

Seeing “Shadowrun Returns” got my juices flowing, moreso because it seems to be one of the few RPGs that I can relate to. For one, the minor characters, while some are stereotypical, at least have some more depth than the Square Enix types.

Sadly, waiting for a company to actually take the call is too much work.

I recall a project that one of my followers were showing me… a queer/minority RPG. I thought… well, I can design one as well.

I was looking at game engines and I thought “yes… maybe I can do it”. It will take about 2 years to develop an involving game with a story line that can be up-to-par with the Square Enix types.

It’s something I’m thinking about for now.

While it won’t have console support, I might be able to port it to other systems… like maybe mobile devices?

I’m not promising anything… but if I can create at least one game and put it out there, with brilliant PoC characters, a grabbing story, interesting side quests, multiple endings… and show that I can write better than the current story writers out there…

… it will be quite promising will it?

Urban warfare with sorcery? Gadgets?

Who wouldn’t like that?
