The Problem with Fantasy RPGs

I like playing the Square Enix type RPGs.

However, it seems that when it comes to characters of… a slightly dark variety… they seem so stereotypical.

Seeing “Shadowrun Returns” got my juices flowing, moreso because it seems to be one of the few RPGs that I can relate to. For one, the minor characters, while some are stereotypical, at least have some more depth than the Square Enix types.

Sadly, waiting for a company to actually take the call is too much work.

I recall a project that one of my followers were showing me… a queer/minority RPG. I thought… well, I can design one as well.

I was looking at game engines and I thought “yes… maybe I can do it”. It will take about 2 years to develop an involving game with a story line that can be up-to-par with the Square Enix types.

It’s something I’m thinking about for now.

While it won’t have console support, I might be able to port it to other systems… like maybe mobile devices?

I’m not promising anything… but if I can create at least one game and put it out there, with brilliant PoC characters, a grabbing story, interesting side quests, multiple endings… and show that I can write better than the current story writers out there…

… it will be quite promising will it?

Urban warfare with sorcery? Gadgets?

Who wouldn’t like that?
